This year’s News Service of Florida Impact Awardees are setting examples of how Floridians care for one another. Their service spans the Sunshine State, from policy that changes lives at the Tallahassee statehouse to advocacy on behalf of families with autism, at-risk youth in the foster-care system and Hispanic entrepreneurship. These honorees also show the power of collaboration – not only in the state legislature but also on campus, in the courtroom and, especially this year, as they come together to rebuild after a tough hurricane season.
One of this year’s honorees includes Jared Torres, an alum of Take Stock in Children and former Board Chair for Take Stock.
“For more than 20 years, Jared Torres has been an enthusiastic supporter of the nonprofit that helped make his own career possible, Take Stock in Children, which provides scholarships for low-income Floridians. Torres, the group’s immediate past chair, was a first-generation graduate of Florida Atlantic University and the inaugural recipient of FAU’s Outstanding Young Owl alumni award. Currently a partner at The Southern Group in Tallahassee, Torres previously headed legislative affairs for Florida’s Agency for Persons with Disabilities and the state Department of Corrections.”
