Take Stock in Children program grad Alysa Williamson

Non-Traditional Paths to Student Success: Alysa Williamson

At Take Stock in Children, success comes in many forms, and there is no single path to achieving one’s goals. The journey to higher education and career growth can look different for everyone, and we are proud to share the inspiring story of Alysa Williamson, a 2022 Take Stock in Children program grad, taking a unique and resilient approach to the future.

Alysa’s story is one of perseverance in the face of personal adversity. Losing both parents—mother in 2021 and father in 2014—has been a heavy burden. Alysa’s grandmother, who is currently disabled, has been the student’s legal guardian, and family support has also come from an uncle, who tragically passed away in 2024.

Despite these challenging circumstances, Alysa has remained determined to move forward and carve out a future. This unwavering drive has inspired those around.

Alysa reached out for guidance in navigating the challenges of starting college. With support, the scholar updated the student’s financial aid options, including the annual FAFSA form, and completed any necessary tasks for the Palm Beach State College (PBSC) account, including submitting a Homeless Liaison Form.

In a powerful demonstration of determination, Alysa completed a Security Officer’s Course in 2024, earning a certification to begin working as a security guard. This certification represents a significant milestone for the scholar. It reminds us that students can take different routes to success while pursuing long-term educational and career goals.

Mentors and family have offered support and guidance throughout this journey. The advice to apply for the Take Stock in Children (TSIC) program for Alysa’s younger sister, who is currently in 8th grade, was also given. It is hoped that the sister will be able to benefit from the program, just as Alysa has, ensuring that both sisters have access to success in college, career, and life.

Alysa’s journey is a powerful reminder that success doesn’t always follow a traditional path. It’s shaped by determination, the ability to adapt, and the support of mentors, family, and the community. At Take Stock in Children, we encourage all our students to share their success stories with us so we can celebrate their achievements and continue to inspire others.

We look forward to watching Alysa continue to thrive as this exciting new chapter unfolds!
