Melkevia Morris was the youngest and the first in her family to go to college. Melkevia’s life changed when she became a Take Stock in Children scholar in the Duval County program. With a mentor and the promise of a scholarship, Melkevia became confident in school and soon discovered her love for numbers and accounting. After she graduated high school, she pursued an accounting degree at Florida A&M University. Melkevia didn’t stop there. She went on to obtain her Master’s Degree in Taxation at the University of Central Florida.
Melkevia is now a certified public accountant at PricewaterhouseCoopers. Remembering the value of Take Stock in Children and having a mentor, Melkevia applied to be a mentor with the Duval program. “I wanted to share the skills of goal setting with a young person. Give to the next generation what was given to me. Set visions and routines that would set someone apart from the crowd,” said Melkevia.
