A Take Stock in Children scholar, Alexis Smith graduated from Pine View School in 2015 with a 4.83 GPA while also being enrolled at the State College of Florida. She was a member of the National Honor Society, National Hispanic Honor Society, and Mu Alpha Theta. She volunteered as a Sunday school teacher at Sarasota Christian Church and interned with Critical Vet Care. Additionally, Alexis also baby sat and tutored for several families in her community. She now attends the University of Florida and plans to graduate in 2019. Her top goals for 2016-2017 are: making the UF College of Agriculture and Life Science (CALS) Dean’s List at least one semester, applying to be a CALS ambassador where she will have the opportunity to be an advocate for the academic programs and career opportunities made available to students by the college, and taking a leadership position in at least one campus organization she is involved in. Most recently, during her spring semester, she joined Sigma Alpha Professional Agricultural Sorority at UF. After just one semester she was elected for a leadership position and through the sorority was able to secure a job at a local veterinary office in Gainesville. After undergrad she plans on pursuing her doctorate of veterinary medicine. She hopes to one day open a veterinary office where she with practice both large and small animal veterinary care.
