    After being accepted into MIT, Harvard and Princeton, Take Stock in Children recipient Erick Meza announced he has made the difficult decision to attend prestigious Harvard University this fall to pursue a degree in physics. For the last four years, the Bartow High School International Baccalaureate (IB) student received support, resources and a mentor through the Take Stock in Children Polk program that helped him achieve academic success throughout his high school career.

    Education Commissioner Pam Stewart recently announced the appointment of Madeline M. Pumariega, President and CEO of Take Stock in Children as the next Florida College System (FCS) Chancellor. As Chancellor, Pumariega, will serve more than 800,000 students at 28 colleges throughout the state. “It is both a privilege and a pleasure to join the Florida College System as chancellor,” said Madeline Pumariega, Take Stock in Children President and CEO. “I am excited to take on this leadership role that provides students with a low-cost, high-quality education that translates into job readiness and 21st century workplace skills.”

    This is a favorite time of the year for Take Stock in Children as we celebrate one of the most significant milestone events of our students’ success – their high school graduation. Over the next 60 days, over 1,500 Take Stock in Children high school seniors from across the state will become graduates and earn their diploma. This is game changing for our students as many are the first in their families to graduate high school and for most the first to have the opportunity to pursue a college education.
