Meet the 2014 Leaders for Life Fellows



Jovani Hernandez

Jovani Hernandez

Take Stock in Children Scholar Jovani Hernandez graduated from high school in 2014 with a 4.96 GPA and was ranked second, academically, in his class. He now attends the University of Florida and plans to graduate in 2018. He completed an internship at the Engineering Department in Highlands County and studied abroad in Madrid for the 2016 fall semester, which he credits as an amazing experience in his personal development. He’s currently focusing on gaining more engineering experience by joining competition design teams and working as a teaching assistant. In the future, Jovani plans to obtain a job in a forward-moving technological company that will provide him the opportunity to do meaningful work.

Jorden Holland

Jorden Holland

Take Stock in Children Scholar Jorden Holland graduated from Collegiate High School in 2014, academically ranked first in her class, where she held a 4.65 GPA and received her AA at the same time as her high school diploma. She attended the University of Florida and graduated in 2017. As an undergraduate, she was most proud of completing research in her lab. She also completed her senior thesis on spiny mice regeneration in her undergraduate lab. Additionally, she’s proud of her involvement in the Gainesville community through the Golden Key Honor Society. She’s currently set to begin a PhD program in genetics at Texas A&M University in the fall. In the future, she hopes to work in a genetic research laboratory where she can do research on gene therapy for birth defects.

Daniella Rossi

Daniella Rossi

Take Stock in Children Scholar Daniella Rossi graduated from Jensen Beach High School in 2014 with a 6.02 GPA while dually-enrolled. She now attends the University of Florida (UF) and plans to graduate in 2018. She says this past year has helped her realize that she loves doing research in the industrial/organizational psychology field which has led her to become involved in a research group at UF. She’s in the process of preparing for the GRE so she can apply to graduate programs prior to graduation. Upon completion of her education, with a degree or degrees in psychology, Daniella plans to continue doing research in the industrial/organizational psychology field.

Jacquelynn Shelton

Jacquelynn Shelton

Take Stock in Children Scholar Jacquelynn Shelton graduated from Gulf High School in 2014 with a 4.3 GPA, high school and IB diplomas, and an AA degree. She currently attends the University of South Florida and plans to graduate in the summer of 2017. As a student, she’s been focused on getting more involved with medical and chemical research and giving back to the community through consistent service. Her most recent – and honored – accomplishment was becoming a scientific research diver and completing work with Dr. Begin in the British Virgin Islands. She’s working on completing her degree, with classes this summer and fall, and is keeping her future plans open.

Kevin Tierney

Kevin Tierney

Take Stock in Children Scholar Kevin Tierney plans to graduate from the United States Air Force Academy with a bachelor of science degree in military history. He hopes to attend flight school through the USAF Academy and become an Air Force pilot.

Lucero Torres

Lucero Torres

  • University of Central Florida - Class of 2018
  • College Focus: Finance
  • TSIC Alumni from Highlands County

Take Stock in Children Scholar Lucero Torres graduated from Lake Placid High School in 2014 dually-enrolled and with a 5.28 GPA, ranking third in her class. She currently attends the University of Central Florida and plans to graduate in 2018. Impressively, during an internship with Verizon, she was allowed the opportunity to present her project findings to the CFO of a Fortune 15 company. This summer, she be interning for Boeing as a 777 Engineering Financial Operations Analyst in Seattle, WA, and finishing her term as vice president of ALPFA at UCF – a professional development organization on campus. Upon graduation, she plans on pursuing a corporate finance career, as well as freelance photography/cinematography.
